Unlike the traditional “circle” model used by other apps (like Life360), OtoZen is designed around individual sharing and control.

OtoZen’s Individual Sharing Model:

  • Each user has full control over their location sharing settings.

  • Users can choose who they share their location with, for how long, and even when—for example, only while driving instead of sharing location all the time.

  • One-way sharing is supported—a user can share their location without requiring the other person to do the same.

  • Ideal for adult households, independent family members, or anyone who values privacy.

  • While initial setup takes a little more effort, it allows for a more personalized and privacy-conscious experience.

Why we chose this model:

We believe location sharing should be intentional, flexible, and private. For many families—especially with multiple adults—this model gives each person the ability to share on their own terms, without being locked into always-on group visibility.

Example: Smart Sharing for a Family of Four

  • Mom & Dad: Share location with each other only when driving to stay updated on commutes and pickups.

  • Teen: Shares location only while driving with Mom and Dad, but not with the younger sibling.

  • Younger Child: Shares location all the time with both parents and receives driving location alerts when a parent is on the way—helpful for pickup notifications.

  • The younger child does not see the teen’s location.
